Charles Powell writing:
We have changes coming for the operations at Zinga. The constituents of the Tanzanian Board of Directors for IHP-JEMA-TZ, the counterpart to IHP-US, have changed. We are actively considering ways to enhance the mission and the model for the project. There also appears to be a glimmer of hope that COVID-19 will not rule our lives indefinitely. We may one day be able to return to Tanzania in relative safety from this disease. To say we are looking forward to this is a muted understatement. More on the proposals for Zinga in months to come.
On another note, we have had at least two burnouts of the X-ray and related equipment due to line voltage surges. In the coming days I will be discussing with Sele the possibility of making the X-ray building mains independent and entirely off-grid. There would be an initial cost for a solar installation, but I believe this is far outweighed by the expense of repeated repairs to the system from power surges. Again, more to come regarding this possibility.

In the past, in January, Denny and I would be headed south, to Florida, South Texas, Southern California, anywhere warm where IHP has supporters willing to let us update them on the progress in Zinga. Instead, here we sit in Kansas, with the heat on. Brrrrr.
Nevertheless, our hearts are warmed with the knowledge of your continuing generosity and support for the people at Zinga. Thank you.
January is a time of new beginning, having closed out the old year. And, administrative changes are evolving with IHP, some of the old guard stepping down and new folks coming on board to bring new ideas and talent and energy into the project. Welcome! We’ll have more about this to share as the months go forward.
Duane Quanbeck is doing a remarkable job of implementing our new QuickBooks bookkeeping system for IHP. It’s a giant learning curve and he and Ron Overmyer are working beautifully with our consultant to get all the categories affirmed so we can continue to direct each and every dollar given as the donors have requested. We’ve always endeavored to do this, but it is much more easily tracked now and less cumbersome than having separate bank accounts!
Dr. Kitundu sent this photo of a child with impetigo, a skin infection caused by staphylococcal or streptococcal bacteria.
He was treated with penicillin.
Along with all the tropical diseases endangering children in our area, they suffer the same ailments as kids everywhere, particularly things like eczema, scabies, and impetigo. Covid is an issue, but not an overwhelming one at this time in our area.

You make miracles happen. How glorious is that?

Hi everyone,
This is the time again we are letting you know what is happening in Zinga/Bagamoyo, Tanzania.
We are very happy to inform you that we have received the money for the x-ray machine repair. We have also managed to buy the broken circuit for the x-ray machine.
Below here it shows the new circuit we bought.
The technician (fundi) came and installed it. Now the x-ray generator is working fine. Except we are experiencing a new change on the x-ray machine. Now it shows error #3. The technician says he will have to install new software and he will have to work on the frequency, since the circuit is new.
So, we are expecting the x-ray to be completely fixed and usable very soon.
Below it shows the fundi is working on the x-ray machine.
Thank you very much for assisting, supporting, and helping by providing this project for Zinga. Thank you very much for your gift and sharing it with the Tanzanians. THANK YOU FOR PUTTING SMILES ON OUR FACES AND IMPROVING OUR LIVES. MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES. Selemani Shabani, IHP JEMA TZ, CONTRACTOR.
