The current buildings were formerly the head office of the Bishop of East of Lake Victoria Diocese and his staff.  As they consider the needs of their people, they decided that the buildings would be better utilized as a hospital.  They moved into smaller quarters and called IHP to help develop the hospital.

Dr. Janice                    from Wisconsin had visited the Diocese previously , organized and sent a container full of medical supplies.  With these supplies and another IHP container plus NGO funds, the Lofstroms transformed the building into a health unit....to be authorized to function as a hospital as soon as a surgical suite and wards are built.  Below is a picture of the staff and the health unit on opening day.

Many medical teams are scheduled to come to Nyakato this year and three more are already scheduled for 2007.  Medical students, nurses, nursing student, volunteers of all sorts, doctors and teams come to help.  Housing is available for volunteers. Many many patients come to Nyakato for care.  See the "hospital plans" for an overview of the master plan.
